About Us

Background

Green Initiative Zambia has been very instrumental in promoting environmental sustainability in Zambia through education programs and advocacy. In 2010 we pioneers the Environmental Wildlife and Climate Change Education programs in Copperbelt with the legitimate MOU with the Ministry of Education to work with all education institutions, and another MOU with Zambia Environmental Management Agency to work with all community and other stakeholder.

Get in touch

The tree planting project of the 2016/17 season was one of the successful undertaking due to some positive factors by both the ZAMEFA and Green Initiative Zambia team who has a well thought preparatory meetings before the planting. Schools were communicated in good time during the last audit to start preparing with digging of holes and mulching.

Green Initiative Zambia implemented yet another tree planting in the last season with 800 trees planted in schools and other various public places. The project has even attracted many organisation and individuals around Copperbelt who have sort assistance from the organisation in terms of seedlings.

SUCCESSES

Some of the successes have been;
A) ZAMEFA was awarded by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) for the Best Environmental Award for the overall contribution to the sound environmental management practices in the industry.
B) Improved the fruit variety in Schools and Hospitals
C) Help solve boundary disputes in Kafubu block, Kapupulu and surrounding areas
D) Lower mortality rate since 2014, as a result of our continued environmental education programme,
E) Grown trees have motivated more to increase on care.
F) The project has helped us increase our footprint and marketed both our donors (ZAMEFA) and ourselves.

THE PROJECT-SCALING UP
Green Initiative Zambia has been in talks with ZAMEFA senior management since 2015 to scale up the project. The scaling up is because of the following reasons
1. We now have more schools and other public institutions who want more trees to green their areas
2. Old beneficiaries feel they need to continue benefitting unlike in most cases where we would want to give to new ones.
3. The environmental liabilities are huge in our rural neighboring districts than here in Luanshya. Luanshya is a consumer of charcoal which is produced in Mpongwe, Masaiti, Kafulafuta and Lufwanyama amongst other districts. Since ZAMEFA has had benefitted from these charcoal sources with charcoal, we feel it would be prudent to consider even planting in some of these district. We propose some huge plantation either in community farmlands, public space, along riverlines or an area we can identify with consultation of local traditional leaders and government administrative office.
